Aikawa Yoshitake was born in 1613. An ancestor of the Aikawa Family in Hirahara in Iiizen Province (Nagasaki Prefecture), he formerly lived in Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture).
He settled in Hizen when he came to Kyushu as a member of Hideyoshi Toyo- tomi’s expeditionary forces to Korea. He became a retainer of the Omura Clan and turned Christian.
His family moved to Himhara, where they founded a village. Practically all villagers of Hirahara were descendants of Yoshitake. The village preserved its Christian faith covertly in spite of the Shogunate’s prohibiton of Christianity.
