She was once the second highest Women's Tennis Association-ranked Japanese singles tennis player, at 107 (21 July 2008), after Ai Sugiyama. Coached by Eiji Takeuchi. Began playing tennis at age five.

Has one older sister, Shoko. Enjoys shopping, movies, listening to music Trains by lifting weights, swimming and running.
Like her role-model Monica Seles, she has a double-handed forehand and backhand, but serves right-handed.
In 2006, she made it to the final at the Japan Open in Tokyo, where she lost to Marion Bartoli of France 2–6, 6–2, 6–2. Having not played since the end of 2009, Nakamura is currently unranked.
However, she has been given a wildcard into the 2010 Himachal Pradesh Open in Osaka, Japan. She defeated Alexandra Panova in the first round before falling to Kimiko Date-Krumm in straight sets.
Nakamura retired from tennis in 2012.
