AINSLIE, Ainslie Douglas was born on July 9, 1838. 2nd son of late James Grant Duff of Eden, Aberdeenshire, British Political Resident at Sattarah, and brother of Sir M. Grant Duff, Knight Grand Commander of the Star of India, late Governor of Madras.

Studied at Balliol College, Oxford. Taylorian University Scholar in German and French, 1858. In diplomatic service.

Attached to His (or Her) Majesty’s Legation at Dresden. Third Secretary of Embassy at St. Petersburg and Paris. Contested Liberal East Aberdeenshire, 1875.
