Aioidayu Takemoto was born in 1888 in Tokyo, Japan. He was originally named Ichiro Miwa. He was the grandson of Aioidayu II.
Coming under the influence of his grandfather he took a liking to Gidayu but was not permitted to learn the art by him. Later, however, when he fell ill, he was allowed to have his way, and so at the age of 12 he became his grandfather's pupil under the name of Kowakadayu. After his grandfather died in 1911 he continued his studies under Koshijidayu Takemoto III at Osaka under the name Koshiyodayu Takemoto.
Appearing on the Bunrakuza Theater stage under the name Aioidayu III he soon established his fame (1916). He was an important figure today in Chinamikai circles.
