Career
Joined CPSU 1943; served in Soviet army 1941. Fought on the Western and on 2nd Byelorussian Fronts at Vyazma, Smolensk, in Byelorussia, Poland and Germany 1942-1945. By July 1944 had flown about 100 missions and was made Hero of the Soviet Union.
Completed his 222nd mission on 8 May 1945. Deputy Commander in Chief, Soviet Air Defence Forces March since 1969. Deputy to Supreme Soviet 1946-1950, since 1974.
Rank of Marshal 1975. Commander of Soviet Air Force and Deputy Minister of Defence since 1984.
