AJIMA Tatewaki was born in 1822. His name was Nobutatsu.
When Nariaki was punished by the Shogunatc with confinement at his home, Ajima was also punished. Pardoned in 1849, he was appointed manager of the clan. In the same year, Nariaki was reprimanded once again for disclosure of secrets of the Shogunate to the Imperial Court in Kyoto. When Ajima was examined at a Shogunate law court in connection with this affair, it was disclosed that he seconded a plan to make Yoshinobu Hitotsubashi (Tokugawa), son of Nariaki, heir to the Shogun. Tie was also accused of having sown seeds of discord between the Imperial Court and the Shogunate. He committed harakiri as ordered by the court.
