Akabane Hajimewas born in 1873 in Nagano Prefecture. Lived with Saburo Shimada and then with Masutaro Takagi.
He graduated from the Tokyo Law School.
After studying socialism in the United States, he joined the staff of the Heimin Shimbun (People’s Journal) and engaged in socialist activity. He was arrested in 1910 and sentenced to one year for his pamphlet titled “Farmers’ Blessing” and for his alleged disturbance of the public peace. He died in prison.
