Akamatsu Katsumaro was born in 1894 in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
In 1919 he graduated from Tokyo University.
Engaged in the trade union movement in 1919. He became director of the research department of the Japan Federation of Labor (Sodomei) and managing editor of the Minshu Shimbun (Peo-pled Daily). He was secretary-general of the Socialist People’s Party, director of the General Affairs Department of the Japan Nationalist Socialist Party, and chairman of the executive board of the Japan Renovationist Party. He was returned the House of Representatives in 1937, served as director of the institution department, planning bureau, Imperial Rule Assistance Association in 1940. He was purged after the end of World War II. After being depurged he has been inactive in politics. He was a right-winger in the trade union movement.
