Akamatsu Shigeru

Background

Akamatsu Shigeru was born in 1895 in Hiroshima.

Education

In 1919 he graduated from Tokyo University and became a professor at Chiba Medical College in 1922. 1922-1924 he studied at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Germany.

Career

He became a professor at the Medical College of Chiba in 1924, toured Europe for study of biochemistry, and became dean of the Medical Department of the College (1952).

Achievements

• In 1939 he won a doctorate for his study of the relationship between enzymes and yeast on the one hand and high temperature on the other.
