He joined the Dai Nihon Sugar Manufacturing Company in 1910 after graduating from an American university. Later became its vice-president. After the Pacific War, he re-established the Jiji Shimpo newspaper and became its auditor. He was appointed president of the Japan Monopoly Corporation in 1949.
