Akizuki Keitaro

Background

Akizuki Keitaro was born in 1871. He was the son of a teacher in spearmanship.

Career

He was an official of the Bank of Japan before he made his debut on the stage in Yokohama in 1893. He joined the Seibidan Theatrical Company and impersonated women and also played the parts of romantic lovers.

Achievements

• He was so popular that he was considered the best actor of Shimpa, or new school, in the Kansai, as Yoho Iyi was the best in the Kanto.
