1896—1903 zemstvo health officer, Moscow Province. 1903-1917 health officer, Vereya, Zvenigorod and Moscow Uyezds. Bd member, Pirogov Social and co-ed, journal “Obshchestvennyy vrach”.
1900-1919 chairman, Pirogov Commission for the Dissemination of Hygiene Knowledge, during which period he made a major contribution to sanitary educational by publishing popular lit, visual aids, etc. 1911 helped to organize Russian pavilion at Institute Hygiene Exhibition, Dresden. 1913 helped to organize the All-Russian Hygiene Exhibition, St. Petersburg.
1919-1931 founder-director, Museum of Social Hygiene (from 1923 Institute of Social Hygiene), Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People’s Commissariat of Health. 1922 helped found the Chair of Social Hygiene, 1st Moscow University, to which he was appointed assistant professor. Co-founder, Bureau of Prophylactic Depts.
Helped to reform medical educational with the introduction of active teaching methods. 1924-1947 founder-head, Chair of School Hygiene, Med Faculty, 2nd Moscow University. Contributed to first studies on the dynamics of physical development in childhood and adolescence.
1930 again helped to organize Soviet pavilion at International Hygiene Exhibition, Dresden. 1934 founded Chair of School Hygiene, Centr Institute of Postgraduate Med Training. From 1944 head, Chair of Education Hygiene, Moscow University.
Also organized courses on school hygiene at various teachers’ training inst. Co-ed, “Bol’shaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia) (1st ed). Co-ed, journals “Gigiyena i epidemiologiya” and “Sotsial’naya gigiyena”.
Wrote some 150 works.
