Career
On leaving Oxford entered business of Sykes fc Company, Edgeley Bleach Works, Stockport, of which business he became manager. This business became merged in the business of Bleachers’ Association, Ltd., 1900, of which concern Mr. Sykes is a director.
Largely interested in land in the north-west of America, and is a director of the Alliance Mortgage Company, Ltd., a company operating in land mortgages in the states of Minnesota and North Dakota. Took a great interest in the Volunteer Movement starting as a bugler in his school corps and retiring with the rank of Major. Has always taken a keen interest in Freemasonry, and is a Past Grand Deacon of England.
A Magistrate for County of Chester since 1897, and is a member of the Prisons’ Visiting Committee, the Licensing Committee, and the Standing Joint-Committee of that county.
