He began his career as draftsman in the Chicago office of Henry I. Cobb.
In 1900 Mr. Harris moved to Washington to enter the office of Hornblower & Marshall. After a few years he was promoted to the position of chief designer, and in 1911 was taken into partnership. During the period he was connected with the firm he assisted in preparing plans for the Custom House at Baltimore, Md. 1906-08, and the U. S. National Museum at Washington, built between 1907 and 1911. In later years he was associated for a time with Arthur B. Heaton in designing new buildings at the George Washington University.
