Albert Lorenz was born on December 9, 1941, in New York City, New York, United States. He is a son of Albert and Josephine Lorenz.
Albert Lorenz attended Newtown High School in New York. He studied at Pratt Institute where he received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1965. Later he attended Columbia University and received a Master of Science in Architecture degree. Lorenz also pursued a doctorate degree in anthropology at Princeton University.
Albert Lorenz started his career as an architectural designer at Curtis & Davis Architects in 1965. However, in 1966 he left this post and started his military service. In 1969, Albert Lorenz became founder and owner of The Albert Lorenz Studio. He worked as a professor at Pratt Institute from 1971 to 1990. He has also taught at Tuskegee Institute, Southern University, Auburn University, University of Louisiana. Lorenz worked as a professor at New York School of Interior Design from 1972 to 1981. In 1985 he took a post of a professor at New York Institute of Technology and held this post until 1986. Lorenz also worked as a professor at Adelphi University.
Albert Lorenz started his career as an illustrator and writer in 1971. He illustrated such books as Lift Line: Stories of Downhill and Cross-Country Skiing, The Terra Beyond and Landmarks: Eighteen Wonders of the New York World. His work has been published in the New York Times, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Architectural Record, and many other periodicals. Lorenz published his first book, Illustrating Architecture, 1985. He also wrote Metropolis, House and Buried Blueprints: Maps and Sketches of Lost Worlds and Mysterious Places.
