Studied at Meads Private School, near Sydney. Settled on Waterloo Station, near Walcha, New England, 1852. Retired from that place and travelled over large part of New South Wales, 1857-1860.
Went to Queensland, 1860. Purchased and formed Rodd’s Bay Station, Port-Curtis District, 1861-1875. Summoned to Legislative Council, 1867.
Resigned, 1868; M.L.A. Port Curtis District, 187S-93. Legislative Council, 1894. Minister for Works, 1883.
Speaker of Legislative Assembly, 1888-1893. Has for many years been a Member of Royal Society of Queensland, and twice has been President and Vice - President, Honourable Treasurer until 1909, when retired. Member of Australasian Association and Honourable Treasurer for Queensland.
Chairman, Trustees Queensland Museum until Trust abolished, 1907. Two years Vice - President and two years President of Brisbane Technical College. Chairman of Committees Legislative Council, Queensland, 1902-1907.
Presiding Chairman, 1904-1905. Member of Legislative Council.
