Graduate Germantown High School, Philadelphia, 1919. Student School of Industrial Art, 1919-1921. Studied accounting at night school.
Career
Worked as grocery clerk, typist, truck helper, et cetera, while attending high school. Secretary to director while attending art school. Began in public accounting, 1921.
Working at accounting during winters and variously as harvest hand, railroad car repairer, laborer in packing house, short order cook in restaurant, et cetera, during summers.
Spent 6 months in Europe with group of artists, then hitchhiked through Germany and worked passage home on South.S. America. Also spent 1926-1927 in Sicily.
Began specializing in building and loan and bank accounting, 1927. Partner in manufacturing fibre specialties, 1929.
Bank auditing, western North Carolina, 1931-1932.
Study of restaurant accounting, also promoted prize fights in Asheville, North Carolina. Started a lending library, 1930. Consultant in school lunch rooms, Philadelphia School District, 1932, became supervisor, 1933.
Conducted courses in restaurant management for Philadelphia Restaurant Association.
Writing since 1941.
