Education

Bachelor of Arts, Waterville (now Colby) College, 1832. Studied law 3 years and admitted to bar, at Bangor, Maine, 1835, where has ever since practiced.

Career

Was the only press correspondent in the Aroostook war, 1830, his letters having been widely copied. Originated departments of banking and insurance and was insurance commissioner of Maine, 1868-1873, bank commissioner, 1873. Tax commissioner, 1874.

Member General Insurance Convention of the United States, 1871. President Maine Telegraph Company, 25 years. Treasurer Mount Hope Cemetery Corporation, 50 years.

Director Bangor Savings Bank, since its organization, 1852.
