Views

Wellmer’s early work carried forward the critique of positivism developed in the ‘Positivism Dispute’ of the early 1960s. His Critical Theory of Society (1969) remains an exceptionally valuable discussion of critical theory. Like Habermas and Apel he has since worked more substantially in moral philosophy and on the relations between discourse ethics and social theory, paying particular attention to the challenge of ‘postmodern’ theory.
