Studied at private and public schools. University of Leeds (Master of Science).
After passing some little time in practice, appointed the first Headmaster of the Textile Department, Saltaire Technical Schools. Professor of Textile Industries at the Bradford Technical College, 1892. Has been Vice-President of various textile societies, and edited for some years the Journal of the Bradford Textile Society.
An original member of the Thoresby Society, Leeds, and of other local societies, being specially interested in architectural studies.
Spouse 1899, Eveline,daughter of William Bradshaw of Bramley and Ilkley.
