Alec started his career with his local junior side Renton Thistle before moving to Burnley for the inaugural season of the English Football League in 1888/89. He seldom played a match without scoring, and once, against the Scottish Corinthians, he sent he ball home five times." In November 1989 Brady had been convinced to join Everton by their captain Andrew Hannah, also from Alec"s hometown of Renton. In his second season with Everton they were crowned English League Champions.
In the Summer of 1891 he was lured back to Scotland to play for Celtic in the 2nd Scottish Football League Championship.
Brady spent just one season at Celtic before moving to The Wednesday for the last seven years of his career. A player profile from the Sheffield & Rotherham Independent in April 1896 refers to Brady having played for both Newcastle West End of the Northern Football League and Gainsborough Trinity of the Midland Football League at some point before joining Sheffield Wednesday.
After retiring from football he returned with his family to Renton where he lived till his death in 1913.
