In 1988 Alejandro graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign with Master's degree.
Alejandro received Ph.D. from New York University in 1995.

Alejandro was a part of the movement of writers who grew up in the last two decades. He participated in the Antonia Palacios Workshop and was a member of the publishing team of La Gaveta.
Today he has been living, teaching and writing in Manhattan for more than 20 years. He is a professor of Hispanic Studies at The City University of New York and his list of publications is extensive and varied. The most recent are "Viaje de Vuelta" (novel 2007) and "A New York State of Mind" (essay 2008).
There are 36 essayes, varied chronicles published in specialized magazines or newspapers in Spain, Venezuela and the United States.
Alejandro is a member of North American Catalan Society, Modern Language Association of America, Instituto Literario у Cultural Hispanico, Latin American Studies Association and Latin American Writers Institute.
Alejandro married Raun Gay Norquist on February 14, 1994.
