Aleksandar Marković is a Serbian conductor living in Vienna, Austria.
Education
Aleksandar Markovic graduated conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Wien), in the class of Leopold Hager. He was rewarded the Diploma d"onore at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he attended master class in conducting.
Career
He was a principal conductor of Tyrolean Opera House (Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck). In 2008, he became the musical director and principal conductor of Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Czechoslovakian Republic. His contract has recently been extended by orchestra"s unanimous vote until the end of 2013/14 season.
He was a holder of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation"s prestigious scholarship.
He was a Principal Conductor of Tyrolean Opera House from Innsbruck, Austria (Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck), from 2005 to 2008. During that time, he led productions of Romeo and Juliet, Salome, Madam Butterfly, Tosca, Norma, Louisiana Traviata, Nabucco, The Flying Dutchman, Cavaleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, The Marriage of Figaro, Swan Lake, and a large number of symphonic pieces.
He also performed as a conductor on music festivals, such as: Bratislava Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kissinger Sommer Festival, Osor Musical Evenings and Murten Classics Summer Festival. During his career, Aleksandar Markovic has conducted the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Dresden Philharmonic, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
He regularly works with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, and has appeared with Nürnberger Philharmoniker, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, State Philharmonic Rheinland-Pfalz, Württembergische Philharmonie, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, National Theatre (Prague), Chamber Orchestra Spirit of Europe, Salzburger Landestheater, and National Theatre in Belgrade.
As for non-European countries, he has worked with Korean orchestras and the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. He presently is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. Together with his orchestra, he appeared in Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg, Brucknerhaus Linz, Palace of Arts (Budapest), Stefaniensaal Graz, and in twelve cities of Japan.
