1913 graduate composition and singing classes under Professor Vasilenko and Professor Mazetti, Moscow Conservatory.
1913-1918 music teacher and choirmaster in Tver’, where he organized music school. 1918-1922 instructor, Moscow Conservatory. 1922-1928 choirmaster, Moscow State Chamber Theater.
1926-1930 conductor. State Choir. 1928 founded Red Army Song Ensemble (Subsequently known as the Soviet Army Red-Banner Song and Dance Ensemble) at the Centr Club of the Red Army, Moscow. Also known as the Aleksandrov Ensemble, this choir sings to the balalaika, the domra and other folk instruments and is extremely popular in the USSR and abroad, where it has made many guest appearances.
