1879 joined Kiev People's Will organisation. 1881 arrested for revol propaganda and sentenced to admin banishment from Kiev. Then sentenced to death.
Sentence commuted to indefinite exile. Twice fled from exile and prison. While in Siberia, contributed to local newspapers and journals on regional studies.
1906 moved to Moscow. Exiled from Russia; returned to Russia, then exiled to Chyornyy Yar, Astrakhan' Province. 1911 edited periodical Sumskiy vestnik: spent a total of 29 years in prison and exile.
After 1917 October Revol member, Khar’kov Soviet of Workers’ Deputy. From 1922 directed Museum of Centr Archives of the Revol, Khar’kov.
