During World War 1 evacuated with his parents to Russia and lived in Petrograd, Voronezh Province and Ukraine. 1919 returned to native village. From 1929 member, Communist Party Western Belorussian (abolished by orders from Moscow in 1938).
Then secretary, distr comt of this Communist Party and worked for underground ed staff of its Central Committee. Arrested 14 times by Polish authorities and twice interned in Berioza Kartuzska concentration camp. From 1929 lit work; wrote on revol themes with a great deal of autobiographical material.
