Trained as an engineer. First book of poetry, 1965. Translated into Russian 7 books of Georgian poetry.
Behind every event featuring unofficial Soviet artists during the 1960s-early 70s. One of the organizers of the so-called Bulldozer Exhibition in Moscow, September 1974. Became a collector of works by unofficial Soviet artists.
Emigrated in 1975 and settled in Paris. Organizer of numerous exhibitions all over Europe. In 1976, founded the Museum of Russian Art in Exile in Montgeron, near Paris.
In 1980, set up a branch in Jersey City, USA, and at the same time the publishing house Tretia Volna. Founder and editor of the magazine of the same name. Lives between Paris and New York.
Has written several books and numerous essays on art. Books include: Iskusstvo Pod Bulldozerom: Siniia Kniga, London, 1977: Chelovek S Dvoinym Dnom. Paris, 919 Russkie Khudozhniki Na Zapade, Paris, New York, 1986.
