Gorbatov, Aleksandr was born in 1891.


Joined the Red Army and the Communist Party, 1919. Cavalry brigade commander during the Civil War. Arrested during the army purges in the 1930s (later described part of his Gulag experience in Novyi Mir magazine).

Released during World War II. Commander of the 3rd Army. Commander of the Baltic military district, 1954-1958.
