He was born in the village of Kondrovo, Kaluga Governorate, Russian Empire.
Khinchin graduated from the university in 1916 and six years later he became a full professor there, retaining that position until his death.
1919 began to teach; taught successively at Ivanovo-Voznesensk Polytech Institute, then at Moscow Karl Liebknecht Teachers’ Training Institute. From 1927 professor, Moscow University. From 1939 did research at Mathematics Institute, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
Dealt with functions of real variables, introducing concept of asymptotic derivative, generalizing the Dangeois integral and studying the structure of measurable integrals. Applied metric functions theory methods to numbers and probability theory. In numbers theory did research on the theory of diophantic approximations.
Discovered new aspects of the metric theory of constant fractions. Together with Academy A. I. Kolmogorov, founded Soviet probability theory school. Also studied limiting theorems, discovered the law of the repealing logarithm, defined the random stationary process and laid the basis for the theory of tsuch processes.
Made wide use of probability theory as a mathematical tool of statistical physics.
Religion is bad because it stops people thinking in a rational and objective way.
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
Academy of Sciences of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics]
In 1939 Khinchin was elected as a Correspondent Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics.
