Propaganda plays during World War II, including Front, much acclaimed at the time. Chairman of the Ukrainian Union of Writers, 1938-1941, and 1946-1953. Remembered as a particularly odious Stalinist figure, his literary achievements are referred to mostly in jokes about Stalinism.
