While still a student worked at V. V. Podvysotskiy’s Laboratory. From 1898 lecturer, Agric Department, Kiev Polytech Institute. 1900 defended doctor’s thesis on skin innervation in humans.

Did research on the physiological degeneration and regeneration of nerve tissue elements in the course of the body’s lifetime. Described cell-containing peripheral nerve plexi in human skin and animal tissues. Depicted synapses as “organoid bodies”.
Devised method of staining peripheral nerve structures with methylene blue. Hypothesized the presence of fluctuating current in neurons. Wrote first Russian guides to the application of biometrics to biology, medicine and the physiology of domestic animals.
