1921 graduate Medical Faculty, Moscow University.
1924-1932 assistant professor and senior lecturer, Moscow Centr Institute of Mother and Child Care. From 1930 sci director, Ural Institute of Mother and Child Care. 1932-1938 also head, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Sverdlovsk Medical Institute.
From 1938 head Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kiev Medical Institute. From 1949 also Chief Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Ukraine Minister of Health. Wrote original study of maternity consultation techniques and did research on contraceptives.
Campaigned for widespread use of painless childbirth techniques and compiled statistics on the mortality of mothers during childbirth. Trained midwives in the psychological preparation of expectant mother. Devoted considerable energy to anti-cancer campaigns, introduced mass prophylatic examinations for women and devised chordotomy for advanced cancer of the womb.
Delegation, 8th All-Union Congress of Soviets. Member, Editor Commission for Final Draft of the Soviet Constitution. Wrote 110 works.
Correspondent member, Ukraine Academy of Sciences from 1939. Communist Party member from 1932.
