1899 graduate Novorossiysk University, Odessa.
1900-1908 taught at a high school in Odessa. 1908-1909 studied abroad for doctorate. 1909-1911 associate professor, Nezhin Institute of History and Philology.
1911 — 14 inspector, Kiev 4th and 5th High Schools. 1913-1914 also director, Russian Pedagogical Museum, Kiev. 1914-1919 principal, Naumenko High School, Kiev.
1919-1921 principal, Pyatigorsk High School. 1922-1925 head, Kiev Model Labor School. 1922-1940 professor of pedag, Kiev University and Teachers’ Training Institute.
From 1928 member, Sciences Pedagogical Committee, Ukraine People's Commissariat of Education. Specialized in teaching methods, first as a Herbartian, then as an advocate of the “comprehensive system”.
