Aleksandr made his first appearance in the main draw of a Major at the Australian Open, where he lost to Tomáš Berdych in straight sets.
At the French Open, he recorded his first victory at a Grand Slam event with victory over Somdev Devvarman, he again met Berdych in the second round, this time winning a set before losing in four. Singles: 5 (3–2)
