1902 graduate officers’ artillery classes.
From 1902 training work and commands in Russian Navy. 1905 refused to let his company carry out the death sentence on four sailors involved in the mutiny on the “Prut” transport vessel. 1905-1906 appeared as defense advocate in the trial of 200 Black Sea Fleet mutineers and managed to achieve the repeal of death sentences.
1917 commanded minelaying brigade, Black Sea Fleet. July—December 1917 commander, Black Sea Fleet. Sided with Soviet regime.
1919-1920 chief of staff, Yakir’s Southern Forces Group, 12th Army. February 1920—December 1921 commander, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Navy. Then lectured at Naval Academy and worked for central organs of Soviet Navy.
From 1947 retired, but continued to work for Hydrographic Service of Black Sea Fleet.
