Aleksandr OPARIN, USSR Biochemist. Professor 1929; Doctor of Biological Science; full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1946; Director, Institute of Biochemistry, USSR Academy of Science, since 1946; Director, Chair of Plant Biochemistry, Moscow University, since 1929.


OPARIN, Aleksandr was born in 1894.


1917 graduated Natural Science Department, Moscow University.


Helped organize Institute of Biochemistry, USSR Academy of Science. 1939-1946 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. Since 1950 member, Soviet Committee the Defense of Peace.

Member, World Peace Council. Since 1952 V.-President, World Federation of Scientists. Со-Editor, “Chemistry” section, “Bolshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia).

1955 attended International Congress of Biochemists in Brussels. Works deal with: theory of enzyme activity in plant cells. Enzymology and industrial biochemistry.

Devised rational biochemical basis for industrial production of sugar, bread, wine, tobacco, tea, etc. Advanced theory of origin of life on earth, etc.


Religion discourages exploration of science and universe by suppressing curiosity, and denies its followers a broader perspective.


Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
