SERAFIM, Aleksandr was born in 1878 in Saratov Province.
1900 graduate Saratov Theological Seminary. 1904 graduate Kiev Theological Academy.
1902 ordained monk with name of Serafim. 1904-1907 teacher, Ufa Theological Seminary. 1907 rector, Tavrida Theological Seminary, then rector and archimandrite, Saratov Theological Seminary.
From 1914 Bishop of Serdobol’ and vicar, Finnish Eparchy. After 1917 October Revol Bishop of Finland. Removed after proclamation of autonomy of Finnish Church and went to Valaam Monastery.
1926 went to London as Eulogia Metropolitan (Foreign Church) and vicar, West European Metropoly for England. 1927 elevated to full metropolitan and appointed custodian of Russian Orthodox Church parishes in Western Europe with his residence in Paris. After World War 2 came under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchy.
From 1916 Exarch for Western Europe, Moscow Patriarchy. 1947 went to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics for talks with Patriarchy and Council for Russian Orthodox Church Affairs, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Council of Minister 1949 retired on pension.
1954 returned to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics and lived at Troitse-Sergiy Monastery near Moscow. Later moved to Uspenskiy Monastery, Odessa.
