Metalworker by trade. 1894 joined People's Will workers' group and helped establish and run People's Will underground Lakhta printing press Did revol propaganda among Saint St. Petersburg workers.
1895 developed an interest in Marxism, broke with the People's Will Party and became an active member of Saint St. Petersburg League for the Liberation of the Working Class. 1896 arrested for helping to organize Saint St. Petersburg textile workers’ strike. Early 1898 exiled for three years to Eastern Siberia.
December 1898, while in exile, made the acquaintance of Lenin and 1899 attended 17-member SocDemocratic Conference. 1901 returned from exile and became agent of Lenin’s newspaper “Iskra”. 1901-1906 underground organizer and propagandist among workers in Batum, Kineshma, Ivanovo-Voznesensk, Kiev, Tver’, Yekaterinoslav, Odessa and Khar’kov.
1905 member, Khar’kov Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee. December 1905 arrested. June 1906 released on bail and emigrated.
Lived in Belgium, then France where he worked as a lathe-operator at various plants and took part in various for Bolsheviks organisation. Early July 1917 returned to Petrograd. After 1917 October Revol did Parly and government work.
1924, at 13th Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Congress, elected member, Centr Control Commission. In his latter years pensioner and engaged in lit work.
