Studied at Tambov Theological Seminary.
Expelled from seminary' for political unreliabilitiy. Did Party work in Tambov, Saint St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Nikolayev, et cetera Attended Prague Party Conference.
Arrested, imprisoned, then exiled. After 1917 October Revol worked in Odessa and Ivanovo-Voznesensk, editing newspaper “Rabochiy kray”. 1921-1927 ed, journal “Krasnaya nov’” which united writers of various generations such as Gorky, Veresayev, Ivanov and Seyfullin.
Also directed Krug (Circle) Publ House. 1923-1927 ed, journal “Prozhektor”. 1925-1928 sided with “Trotskyist opposition” and in connection with this expelled from All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks).
Later broke with opposition and was reinstated in Party. Worked fro State Fiction Publ House. 1911 first work printed.
Published many articles and reviews on theory of art, lit movements of 1920's and work of individual writers. Polemicizcd with other lit critics and historians. 1937 arrested by State Security organs.
