Graduated from Frunze Military Academy in 1939.
Joined the Soviet Army in 1928. Intelligence officer in charge of partisan operations near Leningrad, 1941-1943. Later transferred by the GRU to control partisan operations in Czechoslovakia, 1944-1945.
After World War II, became a high ranking MGB (Committee for State Security) officer. Retired in 1956 at the age of 50 after Khrushchev’s speech at the 20th Party Congress about the crimes of Stalin’s Gulag. Active in the Soviet Committee of War Veterans in the 1960s.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
