Studied physics at Leningrad University for 3 years. Studied set design under N.Akimov. Studied physics at Leningrad University for 3 years. Studied set design under N.Akimov. Graduated from Leningrad University and developed an interest in stage technology.
Became stage designer for a Leningrad theatre. His first design was for The Master, a production of the Leningrad Children’s Theatre, which won several awards. This and his experiments in the technology brought him to work as a technical director in a number of theatres, including the famous Taganka Theatre in Moscow.
Technical director of the Leningrad Malyi Drama Theatre from 1984. Won 1st prize for his stage designs in the All-Russia Theatre Festival in 1987. Involved in the Malyi Theatre’s production of Stars in the Morning Sky, which toured Britain successfully in 1988.
