During 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War served as adjutant to commander in chief, General Kropotkin. 1906-1917 military-diplomatic posts in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and France. During World War 1 liaison representative of Russian Army Headquarters at French Army Headquarters.
After 1917 October Revol, while serving as military attache in France, sided with Soviet regime and helped to secure for it money deposited by tsarist government in French banks. 1924, upon establishment of first Soviet embassy in France, turned over to it documents and considerable amount of money. Granted Soviet citizenship and worked in Soviet trade mission.
1937 returned to Moscow. 1937-1947 worked in Red Army military schools and in the Military Publ House. 1943 promoted lt-general.
1947 retired and concentrated on lit work.
