He came to the United States as a child in 1980. Foreign some time he worked at NYANA, a refugee resettlement agency in New York City (his co-workers there included Todd Solondz, Gary Shteyngart, Alexander Gelman and Roman Turovsky). Alex Halberstadt’s writings have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Gentlemen’s Quarterly, Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, Salon, the Oxford American, and elsewhere.
