Hallatt has a degree in biochemistry from the at Canterbury.
Once she obtained her degree, she ended up waitressing at a restaurant in New Jersey for about 6 months. As she was waitressing, she was also working on a comic, titled Polar Circle. This same comic was later named Arctic Circle.
Her complete distaste of waitressing aided in her artistic career.
Hallatt worked in clinical research for seven years before becoming a full-time cartoonist in 1999 where she landed a job working for Brighton"s daily newspaper. In 2003, she moved to Lyttelton, New Zealand, before moving to Australia in 2008.
In 2012, she returned to England. She is currently working with an American syndicate (King Features) who distributes her comic Arctic Circle.
Her webcomic, Human Cull, appears on GoComics.com.
Hallatt had no prior training or education in art Her love for comics and doodling has led to her success as a cartoonist. One of her first comic strips was for the Uni Newspaper.
The comic was about a student who was half man and half mosquito who eventually ended up getting fly-swatted at the end of the comic.
