In 1973 he got education at Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR.
Since 1973 he has held various positions in the Central Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of USSR and abroad in the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs system. Since 1998 he has worked as a Deputy Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, since June, 2002 he has held the post of Director of the Third European Department. On the twenty-second of September, 2004 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Serbia and Montenegro (after detachment of Montenegro – only in Serbia). In March 2008 he was relieved of his functions of an ambassador and in April 2008 was appointed the Director of the Third European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He holds diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. Alexeev Alexander Nikolaevich has a good command of English, German and French.
