Studied engineering
1904-1920 member, Rumanian Social-Dcmocratic Party, from 1918 one ot its left-wing leaders. 1920 member, Rumanian SocDemocratic Party dcleg to Moscow for negotiations on Communist International membership. Took part in talks with Lenin.
1919 and 1920 deputy, Rumanian Parliament. From 1921 one of most active members of newly-founded Communist Party Rumania. 1922 and 1924 deleg, 2nd and 3rd Congresses, Communist Party Rumania.
1922-1924 member, Auditing Commission, Central Committee, Communist Party Rumania. 1924-1925 member, Central Committee, Communist Party Rumania. Frequently arrested; during imprisonment went on hunger-strike 14 times, the last of which (in 1929) lasted for 46 days and was abandoned only on orders from the Central Committee, Communist Party Rumania.
1925 sent to Moscow to work for Communist International Executive Committee. 1927 joined All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). 1928-1931 Party work in Rumania.
From 1932 until death lived in Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. November 1932 member, Auditing Commission, 1st World Congress of International Organization(s) for Aid to Revol Fighters. Subjected to reprisals by State Security organs.
