Alexander Ivanovich Danilevsky was born on August 26, 1790, in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation.
He graduated from the Peter and Paul German School in St. Petersburg and studied at the University of Göttingen (1808–1811).
From 1812 he was in military service (adjutant of M. I. Kutuzov) and was engaged in the compilation of the journal of hostilities. He was a participant of the Battle of Borodino. From 1813, he was in the retinue of His Imperial Majesty in the quartermaster unit and then the Adjutant Outhouse (1816). In 1816-1822 he accompanied Emperor Alexander I during his trips around Russia and abroad. Danilevsky was a participant of the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829, senator (1835), chairman of the Military Censorship Committee (since 1835).
