Joined Royal Artillery, 1842. Served West Indies as Fort Adjutant, 1842-1847, and as Captain, 1848-1850. In the trenches of the left attack in the Crimea, March 1855 to August 1856, and was engaged in five bombardments of Sebas topol (despatches).
Served in India as Lieutenant-Colonel 1863-1870. Decorated for service in the Crimea. Companion of the Bath, 5tli class Medjidie, Turkish medal, Crimean medal, Sardinian medal.
