Studied at Warminster and Marlborough Grammar Schools. Switzerland.
Called to Bar, Lincoln’s Inn, 1869. Began to practice as an advocate in Tunis, 1873. Represented the Bey of Tunis in his differences with the French Republic, 1880-1881.
Special correspondent of Times in Tunis, 1881, and Egyj)t, 1882. Senior Counsel of Arabi Pacha and the other state-prisoners at Cairo, December 1882. Made an Advocate of French Bar by decree of President of Republic, 1883.
For many years held the appointment of Standing Counsel to the ex-Khedive Ismail Pacha of Egypt. Journalist, and collector.
