Alexander Mikhailovich Bakunin was the leader of the Tver nobility, poet and publicist from the Bakunin family. The owner of the Pryamukhino estate, which was visited by famous figures of Russian culture V.G. Belinsky, N.V. Stankevich, T.N. Granovsky, and many others.
Background
Alexander Mikhailovich Bakunin was born on October 28, 1768, in the village of Pryamukhino, Tver province of the Russian Empire (now Pryamoukhino village, Tver Oblast, Russian Federation), in the family of a full state adviser, vice president of the chamber board Mikhail Vasilievich Bakunin (1730-1803) and Lyubov Petrovna Myshetskaya (1738-1814).
Education
In Italy, Alexander Mikhailovich graduated from the Faculty of Natural History of the University of Turin (1789). In 1789, after he graduated from the university, he´d made a degree in helminthology at the Faculty of Natural Philosophy and received a Doctor of Philosophy In July 1789, for his scientific merits, Alexander Mikhailovich was elected a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Turin.
In 1781, Alexander Mikhailovich, under the patronage of his uncle Pyotr Vasilyevich Bakunin was sent to Italy, where he began serving as a registrar at the office of the Russian envoy in Turin. While serving in Italy, he befriended with N.A. Lvov.
In March 1790, Alexander Mikhailovich returned to Russia, on July 14, 1790, resigned from service and on March 31, 1791, retired with the rank of court councilor. He actively reformed his economy. At the very beginning of his activity on his farm, Alexander Mikhailovich drew up a draft agreement with the peasants, which, according to his plan, was to be the basis for the reforms carried out on his farm. However, this project remained a project. Most of the innovations Alexander Mikhailovich wanted to make remained on paper. However, his efforts still yielded results. For example, by 1804, the debt of his family was reduced by twenty thousand rubles, but his further marriage and the birth of children did not allow him to do this, and even had to borrow again.
Later, by order of Paul I of Russia, Alexander Mikhailovich was appointed councilor to the Gatchina city government (November 1797), but again left his position and settled permanently in the family estate of Premukhino. In 1807-1808 became the leader of the nobility of the Tver province. In 1810, Alexander Mikhailovich took up farming and devoted himself entirely to the education of his children.
Throughout the 1830s and 40s, many prominent representatives of Russian society of that time visited Pryamoukhino. For example, the famous Russian writer I.I. Lazhechnikov, the director of the male gymnasium in Tver, where his sons studied. From the beginning of the 30s of the XIX century, Alexander Mikhailovich Bakunin was the trustee of the Tver gymnasium.
From the mid-1830s, Alexander Mikhailovich began to go blind, and by 1845 he was completely blind. Because of his illness, he could no longer do household chores. In 1842, his son Nikolai returned to the estate and took care of the household. At the end of March 1852, Alexander Mikhailovich became very ill and died on December 6, 1854.

In 1810, Alexander Mikhailovich fell in love with eighteen-year-old Varvara Aleksandrovna Muravyova. She was 24 years younger than her husband and before marriage, she lived in the estate of her stepfather. At first, she refused to marry Alexander Mikhailovich because of the large age gap. Since he no longer expected to succeed, Alexander Mikhailovich was about to commit suicide, but his sister Tatiana immediately let Varvara Alexandrovna know about it. She decided to give him a chance. He had loved and known her all his life.
The engagement took place on June 3, 1810, and was followed by a wedding on October 16 in the Pryamukhin house church. The family had five daughters and six sons.
